HITRAP Workshop 2022

The ion trap facility HITRAP is designed for deceleration, capture and cooling of heavy highly charged ions produced at the accelerator complex of GSI-FAIR. At the HITRAP facility, highly charged ions (HCI) will be available at any desired charge state such as e.g. bare nuclei (up to lead Pb82+ and uranium U92+), hydrogen-like ions or few-electron systems at low energies. With this novel technique, laser spectroscopy, g-factor measurements and high-accuracy mass spectrometry with cooled trapped HCI for testing atomic theory in strong fields can be performed. Also, atomic collision studies with a gas target and HCI-surface interaction studies are part of the experimental program. The experiments are conducted in close cooperation with theory groups.

At this workshop, we will discuss the physics cases, the status of the HITRAP facility and the planned experiments as well as developments within theory. The workshop will take place from July 17 to July 20, 2022 at Haus Hainstein in Eisenach. Participation fee includes all workshop costs and accommodation and is to be settled with the hotel directly. All participants are invited to visit the construction site of the newly built HI Jena building on July 20, after the workshop.

Important Deadlines:
Registration: May 15, 22
