The formal justification of the Langevin method for the solution of sign problems does not allow singularities in the drift. This is a problem for QCD at finite density where zeroes of the fermion determinant produce poles in the drift. We review briefly the
mathematical origin of the problem and describe various strategies to deal with it, as well as their limitations.
