Arriving to Trieste

Located at the north-east end of Italy, on the border with Slovenia, Trieste can be reached by plane, train, car or by sea.

By plane:

The  "Trieste Airport" is 33 km from Trieste and provides direct daily connections with the main Italian cities, as well as with the airports of Munich and London.


From the airport to the city center and vice versa, there is in a convention shuttle service​ "Science-Bus", a "transfer sharing" service on call.

The number of vouchers to be used in the online booking is: P1554. By using this number of vouchers you will pay directly on board the shuttle and you will receive the receipt. 

IMPORTANT : On Sunday, the Science Bus service does not run, but the trains run from 7:00AM to 00:15AM. 


Alternatively, the taxi service from the airport runs from 8 to 24 (Tel: +39 0481 778000).

Taxis are located outside the arrivals area. The cost of the journey is around € 60.00.

A bus service connects the airport with the terminal located in the city center inside the bus station, near the Trieste railway station. Buses (suburban line 51 - Direction TRIESTE/AEREOPORTO) leave the airport every half hour. Tickets (cost € 4.05) are on sale inside the airport with automatic vending machine or at the post office. In Trieste, ticket can be purchased at the bus station ticket office or at the automatic vending machine.

To reach the bus and train station follow the signs. 

Venice's Marco Polo international airport is 120 km from Trieste. It is connected to the Venice-Mestre railway station via a shuttle bus service (the journey time during peak hours is approximately one hour). The train journey from "Mestre" to "Trieste Centrale" takes about two hours. From Marco Polo international airport to Trieste there is also a Flixbus direct service (please consult the timetable from "Venicie Airport" to "Trieste (Autostazione)")

Ljubljana Airport, located in Slovenia, is 90 km from Trieste. A GoOpty service can be booked if you plane to arrive in Ljubljana.

By train

The Trieste railway station is located in the city center, close to the main hotels. To know all the timetables of trains to and from Trieste, visit the Trenitalia website.

By car

Trieste is connected through the A4 with the European Italian motorway networks. Trieste can be reached by car, both using the A4 highway from Venice-Mestre and the A23 highway from Tarvisio-Austria, with exit at the Lisert tollbooth.
After the toll booth, continue along the highway and, after about 20 km, take the Sistiana-Strada Costiera exit and take the SS 14, a panoramic coastal road, which leads directly to the city center (18 km).
Alternatively, after passing the Sistiana-Strada Costiera exit, continue the highway on the Karst plateau, after about 25 km from the Lisert tollbooth take the Prosecco exit (immediately after the tunnel), then continue in the direction Villa Opicina and, arriving at the traffic light controlled crossroads, turn right and go down towards Trieste-city center.
