Description
When the LHC Run 2 came to an end in December 2018, the CERN accelerator complex started into the Long Shutdown 2 and the LHC injectors are currently undergoing major changes. These modifications are being carried out in the framework of the LHC injectors Upgrade (LIU) project, with the aim of providing proton and heavy ion beams of unprecedented beam quality to match the challenging requirements of the High-Luminosity LHC. During 2020 and 2021 the injectors will successively resume operation in order to provide the first beam to the LHC in March 2021. In order to allow re-commissioning of the entire accelerator complex within a tight schedule, the LIU commissioning preparation structure of committees and teams was put in place. In this talk the LIU goals in term of parameter reach as well the commissioning task with timeline will be introduced. The main focus will then be on the adopted approach for commissioning preparation as well as commissioning itself. A similar approach had already been successfully deployed for the LHC beam commissioning.
