Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a mountain resort town in Bavaria, southern Germany. It is the administrative centre of the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, in the Oberbayern region, and the district is on the border with Austria. Nearby is Germany's highest mountain, Zugspitze, at 2961 m (9714 ft.).  

The region is well known for its skiing, snowboarding, carving and freestyle venues. It has more than 60 km of skiing slopes, the perfect snow from November to May, well-prepared slopes ranging from easy to demanding, modern lift facilities, beautiful views and cosy ski huts. Garmisch-Partenkirchen was selected as the venue for the Alpine Skiing World Championship 2011. There are five downhill runs with artificial snow, so that you can enjoy skiing all the way down to 700m.  The region also has 110 kilometres of cleared winter hiking trails.  There is a perfect trail for each age group and all levels of fitness. By Train
German Rail offers a fast, attractive and environmentally friendly way of travelling to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. On weekends, direct express connections arrive from Hamburg, Dortmund and Cologne. Daily a regional direct train runs hourly from Munich Hbf maintrain station to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The trip takes approximately 1.5h


By Plane
If you prefer to travel by plane, you can fly to either Munich, Stuttgart, Innsbruck and Zurich. Local agencies (car rental, bus companies, travel agencies) are happy to organise your journey from the airport if required.

Munich „Franz-Josef-Strauß“ airport is only 120km from Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Innsbruck airport is even closer - only 60km away.

Due to the very convenient train connections from Munich to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, we recommend flying to Munich.
