We developed a ToF system for relativistic heavy ions with a requested resolution of 40 ps FWHM using a 900x600 mm² ToF wall as STOP detector. Such resolution and STOP detector size are mandatory to assign the correct mass number to every fission fragment, identified using the Brho-ToF-dE method with the recoil spectrometer designed for the SOFIA experiment - which hold very recently at GSI....

The SOFIA experiment, held at FRS/R3B last year triggered several technical developement. One of them led us to measure the nuclear charge of fission fragments with a very high resolution. We'll discuss the technical achievements on both the detector and the electronic sides.
