Description
Equilibrium charge-state fractions Fq and mean charges <q> are considered theoretically for collisions of heavy many-electron ions (Biq+, Auq+, Uq+) with gaseous atoms (H, noble gases) and hydrogen plasmas at MeV/u energies. Numerical results for Fq and <q> values are obtained by solving the balance (rate) equations using the electron-loss and electron-capture cross sections calculated with account for the target-density effect and multi-electron processes. The optimal conditions for getting maximal mean charges are discussed.
