16.–17. März 2026
GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung GmbH
Europe/Berlin Zeitzone

The APPA cave will offer access to unique high-intensity heavy-ion and proton beams from the SIS-100 accelerator for experiments in the fields of atomic physics, biophysics, high energy density science and materials science and will be realized as part of the First Science++ stage of FAIR. The goal of this workshop is to discuss the planned experiments and experimental setups, to discuss what adjustments to the original plans are necessary and to develop a strategy for the commissioning of the setups. Another topic will be the potential use of the APPA cave as a laser target area before the beamline from SIS-100 becomes operational. The output of the workshop will be summarized in a report on the science case for the APPA cave.
