Abstract:

For the operation during the HL-LHC era, a completely new all-silicon tracking detector, the Inner Tracker (ITk) will replace the current tracking detector of the ATLAS experiment. The innermost layer of the ITk consist of hybrid silicon pixel detectors. In order to ensure an acceptable material budget and acceptable power dissipation on the electrical services, a serial powering scheme will be deployed for the operation of the ITk Pixel Detector.
While the basic design for the serial powering chains in the detector has been fixed since the beginning, the details of the design have evolved over the course of several years of ASIC, module and system testing. In my presentation, I will present the final design of the ITk Pixel Serial Powering Chains, highlighting several details of that design and explain the reasoning for some of the design choices. I will cover the evolution of the Shunt-LDO regulators, the module design and on-module current balancing, the implications on the design of the local support structures, the interplay between monitoring and interlock system, the data transmission scheme, the overall grounding and shielding implementation and design choices for the power supply units.
