Extreme Field Plasma Physics

High-intensity laser pulses have found numerous applications in particle acceleration and radiation generation. It is expected that with upcoming multi-petawatt lasers we will enter novel regimes of laser-plasma interaction where the particle dynamics is strongly affected by radiation reaction and quantum electrodynamic effects. In my talk I will first give an overview of these phenomena, and then focus on two specific examples how to investigate with high-precision such radiation reaction and pair production effects with present day technology.
