At GSI, the CRYRING ring will be rebuilt in a modified configuration including new sections for injection and extraction. While stand-alone RFQ operation is maintained for multi-turn injection, the new link to the experimental storage ring ESR opens new opportunities for numerous experiments.
The study group report has proposed CRYRING@ESR as pilot machine for FAIR related technologies and concepts such as equipment control, timing system, setting generation or operating control applications. For beam instrumentation data acquisitions systems the chosen standard is FESA, the front-end software architecture developed for the large hadron collider LHC. While detectors of the existing beam instrumentation remain mostly the same, front-end hardware and data acquisition systems must be revised or replaced in view of the new FAIR standards. The talk will present the current status of the “new” beam instrumentation for CRYRING@ESR.
