Description

For photon energies from several 10 keV up to a few 100 keV, Compton polarimetry is an indispensable tool to gain insight into subtle details of fundamental radiative processes in atomic physics. Within the SPARC collaboration several segmented semiconductor detectors have been developed that are well suited for application as efficient Compton polarimeters. During recent years, such detectors were employed in detailed studies of polarization effects in elastic photon scattering of atomic targets, i. e. Rayleigh scattering in the x-ray domain. In my talk, I will give an overview on recent elastic and inelastic scattering results and ongoing experimental projects. In particular, I will discuss the extension to higher photon energies, using a novel Compton telescope detector.
