Ultra-low energy electron cooling at the Cryogenic Storage Ring

The Cryogenic Storage Ring (CSR) in Heidelberg provides a low radiation field to study ultraslow processes in atomic, molecular, and cluster ions. It is the only electrostatic storage ring incorporating an electron cooler. In the talk, various challenges related to the operation of the electron cooler at ultralow energies down to 1 eV will be discussed.
