Polaron Physics in an Ultra-cold Fermi-Bose Mixture with Tunable Interactions

Description

In fundamental models of many-body physics, the coupling between fermions and bosons leads to a rich phase structure and dynamical behavior. Ultra-cold mixtures of fermionic and bosonic atoms emerge as an optimal experimental platform to investigate a wide range of few- and many-body properties of Fermi-Bose mixtures thanks to the high degree of control of two-body resonant interactions by means of the so called Feshbach resonances. Our project aims to explore the dynamics of quantum impurities in a bosonic medium (Bose polarons) by means of an ultra-cold mixture of fermionic 6Li and bosonic 133Cs atoms with inter-species tunable interactions. The main experimental aspects concerning the control of interactions in a 6Li-133Cs mixture, as well as the toolbox we are developing towards the realization of an ultra-cold version of the Bose polaron, will be addressed during this talk. An overview on theoretical predictions and possible scenarios that we expect to observe will be also briefly depicted.
