ESR Operation - Status and Perspectives

The ESR operation has been developed over 25 years allowing various modes for experiments. A summary of the achievements will be given with a special focus on aspects of providing decelerated beams for HITRAP and CRYRING. Some aspects of future operation will be discussed.
