rtunity and Q&A.\nTitle: Open vs. Commercialization – A False Choice: T
ools and Strategies for Open (Source) Transfer\nSpeaker: Dr. Kathrin Göb
el\, GSI\nAbout the speaker:\nKathrin Göbel holds a doctorate in physics
and spent 10 years conducting research in experimental astrophysics. Sinc
e 2023\, Kathrin Göbel has been working as a Technology Liaison Officer a
t the GSI Helmholtz Center for Heavy Ion Research GmbH in the OpenTransfer
project\, which develops and tests methods for the transfer of knowledge
and technologies in the context of open science.\nContent of the webinar:\
nThe publication and transfer of open-source projects requires researchers
and technology transfer professionals to navigate strategic\, legal\, and
economic considerations. This seminar provides practical tools and strate
gies to help make informed decisions about whether and under what conditio
ns software or hardware should be openly shared or commercially exploited.
It offers an overview of relevant guidelines and open-compatible business
models. Central to this approach is a nuanced understanding of Open Scien
ce: "Open" does not automatically mean "free\," but rather means conscious
ly deciding when\, how\, and for whom knowledge is made accessible – bal
ancing societal benefit\, scientific integrity\, and economic potential.\n
This session is aimed at scientists involved in Open Science projects\, as
well as technology transfer professionals and administrative staff.\n \n
