Beschreibung

Along with the twisted photons with orbital angular momentum, twisted matter waves of moderately relativistic electrons, cold neutrons, and atoms have recently been generated. However, despite of the potential applications in atomic and particle physics, low-energy nuclear physics, and spin physics, relativistic vortex particles at accelerators have not been obtained yet. We discuss possible means for creating relativistic beams of vortex electrons, protons, ions, etc. and show, in particular, how the magnetized-cathode and the magnetized stripping foil techniques can be applied to put a twist on electrons and ions, respectively.
