In this informal talk, we will attempt to step “back to basics” and explain the motivation for considering ultralight bosonic dark matter (UBDM) fields as a candidate to explain a major “elephant-in-the-room” problem of modern science. We will then survey a range of experimental approaches to searching for UBDM, which will show that we are witnessing the disappearance of boundaries between astronomy, particle, nuclear, and atomic/molecular physics, with accelerators continuing to be among the most powerful tools for discovery.
