Description
The Apollon laser, currently under construction at Orme des Merisiers, Saclay, France, will be among the first multi-PW installations in the world devoted to the study of high intensity laser matter interaction at unprecedented regimes and peak intensities over 2·1022 W/cm2. The final goal of the Apollon laser is the generation of 10 PW pulses corresponding to energy of 150 J and 15 fs duration at a repetition rate of 1 shot/minute. Recently the Apollon laser demonstrated the capacity of generating >1PW pulses. The detailed commissioning phase of the 1PW beam line is scheduled for February 2019. Experimental demonstrations will follow right after the completion of the laser characterization and will be dedicated at first on electron acceleration in plasma. In this talk we provide an overview of the construction progress of the facility emphasizing on the recently obtained laser performances.
