From the atomic to the nuclear optical clock

Description
The measurement of time has always been an important tool for science and society. Today's best clocks are optical atomic clocks and achieve an accuracy of 1 second in about 30 billion years, longer than the age of the universe. The potential of even higher accuracy is offered by a nuclear optical clock, which uses a nuclear transition instead of an atomic shell transition for time measurement. Such a clock is currently developed by the European "nuClock" collaboration. The most recent status as well as perspectives will be reported, with a special focus on the contributions from LMU Munich.
