Description
Using a dynamic experimental technique, the measurements of thermodynamic functions and electrical resistivity of fluid lead have been carried out for wide ranges of specific volume and pressure. The measurements errors have been reduced to a level comparable to that of static methods. A transition of the fluid from metallic to a nonmetallic state has been detected when its specific volume increased by 2.7 times with respect to the normal value. In each individual experiment the transition occurred almost at constant pressure, while it was identified by a change in the sign of the isochoric temperature coefficient of resistance determined from the results of the entire series of the experiments. It has been found that in the pressure range of 0.6 - 5 GPa the value of specific volume at which the metal-nonmetal transition occurs does not depend on pressure, and hence the transition line is close to an isochore. The speed of sound and the Grüneisen coefficient of the fluid have been determined for the whole investigated region of the phase diagram of lead.
