Shaukat Khan: "Accelerator-based photon sources"

Monday, November 12, 2018 from to (Europe/Berlin)
at KBW ( Lecture Hall )
Accelerator-based photon sources are presently undergoing a rapid evolution. With the commissioning of MAX IV in Lund/Sweden, a new generation of Synchrotron light sources has been initiated. The European XFEL and other highgain free-electron lasers (FELs) with unprecedented beam properties have emerged. The talk first gives an overview of these facilitites and then introduces DELTA in Dortmund as a University-based synchrotron light source. One of the activities at DELTA is coherent harmonic generation, which is a laser-based method to produce ultrashort pulses of synchrotron radiation and is closely related to so-called "seeding" of FELs.
