Description

The GET_INvolved Programme would like to introduce you to the tradition of Carnival in Germany!

Carnival in Germany has a long tradition. Already the Romans and the ancient Greeks ritualised spring festivals in compliment to the antique gods Saturn and Dionysos. The Teutons celebrated winter solstice to chase the evil winter demons. Later the Christians took over those traditions. "Fasching" or "Karneval" (carne vale = farewell meat) is a pre-Easter celebration. You can find a lot of parties in, especially Mainz and Cologne.
