PEGASUS - A versatile spin-polarized electron target

Description
We will present PEGASUS, a versatile and mobile spin-polarized electron target designed, constructed and built at GSI and the results from the first operational runs. Starting from the production of spin-polarized electrons in general, giving details of the apparatus in special and presenting the first beam characteristics, the talk will be a guided walk from the top sheets of the photocathode down the beamline up to the diagnostic elements. A short excursion featuring planned and interesting experiments will follow, for example in the field of homochirality searching for electron dichroism in Gießen, chiral effects of electrolysis and other electron assisted chemical processes in Marseille and Paris, polarization transfer in bremsstrahlung experiments or polarization transfer onto stored ions at the ESR and last but not least chiral effects of dissociative recombination experiments at the newly built Cryring.
